Pilot Vehicles are needed in Saskatchewan as follows:
1. For loaded equipment on single lane highways both a front & trail vehicle are required when the load exceeds 16' 4"
2. For the above type of load on a multi-lane highway a trail vehicle is required.
3. For loads over 98' in length on single lane highways a trail vehicle is required.
4. For loads over 118' in length on multi-lane highways a trail vehicle is required.
5. For loads under 16' 4" wide a pilot vehicle is required when the load crosses the center line. Driving on the shoulder to avoid crossing the center line is NOT PERMITTED
6. For loads over 17' in height; you must get route permission from the various utilities.
7. For towed farm equipment over 18'; pilot vehicle is required by commercial haulers and dealers.
8. A large number of commercial haulers are using pilot vehicles at the 14' wide mark due to their desire for safety on the roadways.
